Health Promoting Schools Conference 2006

National Conference 14 16 September 2006
University of the Western Cape, Cape Town

On the 10th anniversary of the Health Promoting Schools Conference which was held at UWC in 1996, the UWC Health Promoting Schools Project is to host a national Health Promoting Schools Conference at the University of the Western Cape. It will draw together academics and researchers from universities and research councils in South Africa stakeholders from the Departments of Health, Education and Social Development the Western Cape Reference Group for Health Promoting Schools and relevant non-governmental organizations.

The purpose of the conference is to celebrate what has been achieved in researching and building health promoting schools in South Africa, and to chart a path forward for the next decade, including:

  • Identifying and celebrating strengths over the past decade
  • Identifying the gaps (e.g. policy, research, or implementation)
  • Identifying a vision for the next decade
  • Identifying the key strategies to pursue in the next decade
  • Identifying priorities for the next decade
