Primary Health Care Nurse
Wits Paediatric HIV Working Group

The Wits Paediatric HIV Working Group (a syndicate of the Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd) has a vacancy for a Primary Health Care Nurse to work in the field of paediatrics (including HIV management) within the community and in childrens homes. The position would suit a motivated individual who has initiative and a desire to improve the care of HIV-affected children and their families.

The Wits Paediatric HIV Working Group (a syndicate of the Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd) has a vacancy for a Primary Health Care Nurse to work in the field of paediatrics (including HIV management) within the community and in childrens homes. The position would suit a motivated individual who has initiative and a desire to improve the care of HIV-affected children and their families. The position will be for a one year with a view to extending it thereafter.

The successful candidate requires the following experience and skills:

  • SANC registration
  • Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care
  • Diploma in clinical tutoring or training experience
  • A passion for working with children
  • Paediatric phlebotomy skills preferable
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Computer skills recommended
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be detail-oriented and flexible
  • Own transport required.
  • Palliative care diploma, IMCI training & a basic knowledge of Paediatric HIV and antiretrovirals would be useful

Duties will include:

  • Medical management of children at health services and childrens homes in Gauteng
  • Training of PHCNs and lay caregivers in general paediatric management including HIV
  • Involvement in paediatric HIV research projects
  • Ensuring that good clinical practice guidelines are followed
