Pre conference workshops will be held on the 15th May 2006 at the Eskom
Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng
The theme of the Conference is Making Health Systems Work focusing on:
- decreasing the burden of disease and
- increasing equity, effectiveness and efficiency.
Abstracts are invited from anyone working towards improving population health
through community, health service and health systems interventions and people
working at the policy level.
Abstracts under the theme of the burden of disease include such issues as
environmental health, occupational health, communicable diseases and
non-communicable diseases. This theme will present papers on disease burden,
changing patterns of disease, the consequences of disease burden both social and
clinical, the causes of disease burden again both social and clinical, violence
against women, etc.
Under the theme Equity Efficiency and Effectiveness, we welcome abstracts
addressing health systems research, health information systems, policy
implementation, accountability, stewardship, research on equity and health and
human rights. We specifically welcome abstracts that address the issue of human
resources for health.
The closing date for submission of abstracts is 15 March 2006.
Workshops
A number of workshops will be held on the day prior to the conference.
Pre-registration is essential. Delegates can register for one of the
following workshops:
- Outbreak investigation
- Behaviour risk factor research methods (Second generation research)
- Confounding and effect modification
- Advocacy
- A public health approach in health service management
- Public Health graduate alumni workshop
