Research Intern

We are seeking to appoint an intern who will be attached to the Research Programme for a period of one year.


LOCATION: Durban

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work on capacity building within the Department of Health, specifically on assisting with the development of Provincial Health Research Committees (PHRCs) in selected provinces.
  • To compile a database of all ongoing health research within the province. This will be the primary function of the intern. The intern will first establish the consent of all provinces to act on their behalf in gathering this information.
  • The intern will be expected to make contact with all organizations or institutions involved in health research across all the provinces.
  • The intern will introduce the concept of the research database to them, as well as the background to this project (provincial health research committees, and their policy and legislative background).
  • The intern will compile a list of all health research projects, including the details required for the database.
  • Collection of information about the Provincial Research Committee
  • Reports for each institution, describing the structures (committees) and processes involved in the technical and ethical approval of research projects to be submitted.

The intern will be based at the HST head office in Durban , but will be expected to travel regularly to other provinces.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • An under-graduate degree in health or social science
  • Experience in health or social science research.

  • Computer literate (internet, e-mail, MsOffice programs)
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • An interest in health research
  • Good communication skills, including report writing
  • Valid driver's licence

REMUNERATION: A salary package based on current Intern remuneration in HST.
