The Leprosy Mission, an evangelical Christian mission, in partnership with provincial health departments, cares for 3 000 people affected by leprosy throughout South Africa.
A graduate [four-year degree] professional nurse, physiotherapist or occupational therapist or similar health professional, is required as a Programme Manager for the Eastern and Western Cape. The position is based in East London.
Responsibilities: Liaison with health authorities at all levels programme planning and implementation organising and conducting leprosy clinics public awareness programmes training health personnel and providing follow-up care at home for leprosy patients, including screening of household contacts.
As a Christian, you identify closely with the Leprosy Missions Statement of Faith, Vision, Mission and Values. You combine your compassion for the individual patient with the ability to see the big picture.
You are registered with the S A Nursing Council or other relevant professional body. You have boundless energy and an out-going personality coupled with an exceptional level of professionalism. You own your own reliable vehicle. You are willing to work under demanding conditions, to travel extensively, mainly in rural areas and your circumstances allow you to frequently be away from home. You can adapt creatively to under-resourced and varied working conditions and are happy to work on your own.
Excellent leadership, communication and team skills and experience are indispensable. A valid, unendorsed drivers licence is essential. You have a thorough understanding of the public health system and a comprehensive knowledge of all applicable legislation and regulations. Comprehensive knowledge of MS Word, MS Access and MS Outlook is required. Your record-keeping skills are impeccable. You are an exceptionally well-organised person.
Post-graduate training and proven experience in one or more of the following will be a distinct advantage: Project Management chronic disease management dermatology disability prevention community health health sciences education management and counselling. A Bible college diploma is highly desirable.
