ON HEALTH POLICIES AND LAW

Responding to the challenges presented during the political transition to democracy in South Africa, NPPHCN launched the Public Health Intervention through Legislative Advocacy (PHILA) programme in April 1995.

To facilitate constructive dialogue between policy makers and communities about the future of the health care system in South Africa, PHILA has attempted to demystify the legislative process. Through our Legislative Updates and Summary Briefs we disseminate policy information and provide a means for civil society to engage more meaningfully in the policy process. These products have become the signature piece of the PHILA programme. They are intended to bridge the gap between complex health policy documents and popular media coverage. They provide important information in a concise format and a timely fashion.

In order to sustain these efforts, PHILA makes its Legislative Updates and Summary Briefs available to other interested parties at a minimal subscription cost.
